PHS Paradiso

What's that over there? The locker I used during senior year at Perham High School. Lockers are assigned to a different student every year. All lockers look the same... None of them are anything special. The items placed in the locker are what makes the locker unique. I have pictures of my horse Haidas Lena Gun, my boyfriend Cody Waln, pictures of us together, and pictures of my sister that I hardly see in my locker. I surround myself with photos of all the important things in my life to remind me of all the good memories linked to the photographs.

                                                                                                 
Perham High School is where I'm currently graduating from. PHS has a really good facility that wishes to make their students the best they can be. PHS... Is just like any other high school. The food is okay, the homework sucks, the teachers have their off days, and the friends are great.:) PHS is where I spent 4 years of my life.. How can I forget it?:)

The cafeteria is a place where the school congregates to eat and laugh and catch up with friends. Many times I've laughed so hard and choked on my food.:) Other times the cafeteria is a great place to quickly cram for a big test or get that homework done that ya didn't get done the night before:)

 The senior hallway is a place to hang out with friends before class starts. Senior hallway represents to me a place to reflect on the past and plan for the future. It's relaxing; a place just for seniors. 

                                                               

The Graduate

I rated this film a 7 out of 10.

The Graduate is a movie that came out in 1967 and it represents what the teenagers of the of the '60's were going through. They wanted change. They didn't want to be like their parents. One can see this definitely in The Graduate. The main character, Ben Braddock (played by Dustin Hoffman[one of Dustin's first films]) doesn't know what he wants to do with his life and he slowly rebels and becomes in a relationship with an older woman, Mrs. Robinson (played by Anne Bancroft). This was directed by Mike Nichols, too. This film is a comedy slash drama.

I gave this film a 7 out of 10 because I liked it, but I didn't love it. The symbols in this film were easy to understand and I overall liked the acting and the way it was presented. The film conjures questions like, why did a certain character do this? Why didn't they do that? Just general questions that one person can discuss with a group of people.

Because this film was a little funny, I would probably watch The Graduate again.

Psycho

I rated this film 8 out of 10.

What kind of scary movies do you like? Gory? How about scary movies that  keep you on your toes? If the latter, Psycho is the right movie for you. Psycho is a mystery, a drama, a suspense, and a thriller all wrapped into one. This film was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the king of suspense movies and released in 1961. Another question. Do you like black and white? Good, because this film is presented in black and white which suits the plot and the acting perfectly. The music, which was originally wrote just for the film by Bernard Hermann, makes the heart race. The music is a great predictor.

The acting of Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates was a perfect match. Janet Leigh as Marion Crane, Vera Miles as Lila Crane, and John Gavin as Sam Loomis all did a nice job playing their parts in this weird film. Why does this film keep one on their toes? Psycho is laid out on the general idea of the Ed Gein (Ed Gein murdered his family). A young man who is very close to his mother, way to close to his mother, runs a motel and some freaky events happen. 

I really like this film and I'm a comedy type person. I liked how this movie wasn't too bloody, and how most of the action was trying to figure out the story in my mind. Nonetheless, it still kept my heart pounding and I loved it. I liked how the story came down to a conclusion in the end. 

I will definitely watch this film not once, but several times again.

Ben-Hur

I gave this film a 6 out of 10.

The movie Ben-Hur is about a Jewish prince that was wronged by the Roman soldiers in the beginning of the 1st century. This movie stars Charlton Heston as Juddah Ben-Hur, Stephen Boyd as Messalah, and Haya Haraeet as Ester. This film is filled with drama, action, and a feel for adventure.The film is very colorful and the acting is good. The actors fit the characters well, also. The film was directed by William Wyler and was released in 1951. This film also won 11 Academy Awards.

This movie is actually called Ben-Hur: The Tale of Christ because Juddah's and Jesus's lives follow side by side. One can see that Jesus and Juddah were both born in the same time, they were both betrayed by a Roman soldier or a person in charge, but one difference between them, a major difference, is that Jesus sacrificed himself and forgave the people that betrayed him. Juddah Ben-Hur wanted revenge.

I gave this film a six out of ten stars because I didn't really like the story. I didn't get into it at all. I like the colors and the way the film looked, but nothing else. The action scenes in this film are cool because they don't look fake. I disliked the wideness of screen and I felt that overall the film just wasn't for me.

I most likely wouldn't watch this film again.

Citizen Kane

I gave this movie a 5 out of 10.

The movie Citizen Kane sounds like it will be an action film. Well.. It's a drama, so it doesn't really have the whole adrenaline rush thing that action movies are known for. One cool thing about Citizen Kane is that it is played in black&white, even though the technology was there for color. Orson Welles directed and played the main role of Charles Foster Kane when he was only 23 years old! This film was released in 1941. Welles also used different lenses such as the fish-eye. He also used weird camera angles that always made him look taller than his costars and kept his audiences attention. When the cameras made Kane(Welles) it seemed like Kane was more important than the other people in the film.

This movie was about a news tycoon that became rich while he was very young. His mother sent him away to New York City (they originally lived in Colorado) to live with a family friend that could take care of Charles and his money. Charles Kane dies in the beginning, which starts the ball rolling with a bunch of flashbacks and people that knew him were explaining his life because a news paper reporter was trying to find the meaning of the last word that Mr. Kane uttered before he died. The word was Rosebud and it turns out that Mr. Kane's sled was named Rosebud.

I gave this a movie a five out of ten because I could understand why the critics liked it. The black and white made the film feel creepy, which fit well because the general character of Charles Foster Kane was evil and dark.. I know that Charlie Kane was trying to stand up for the little guy (the working class citizen) but he did it in a dictator like way. I also liked the camera angles and the way the scenes blended together.

What I didn't like about this movie was that it was BORING. I understood what was going on and it felt like I was watching a plain old movie; nothing special or a big deal like everyone is making it. The plot wasn't very puzzling, and it didn't make me think. I didn't really care about why he collected statues. I didn't need to find the answers because the questions didn't stand out. This film didn't make me feel like I could..talk to the characters. I didn't feel involved in the film.

I probably wouldn't watch this film again.

Gone With The Wind.

I believe that this movie deserved a 7 out of 10.

Not many children are named Scarlett. Why? Because of the history behind the name Scarlett. What kind of history do ya say? Perhaps a book and a movie titled Gone With The Wind will be helpful.:)  Now.. Who is Scarlett you say? She is Scarlett O'Hara, the main character in Gone With The Wind. She is played by Vivian Leigh who did an excellent job as portraying a strongly willed woman who knows what she wants and will do anything to get it. This film (Gone With The Wind) was directed by Victor Fleming and was released is 1939. Including inflation and all sales, this film is the number 1 money maker in history.

Why was it a number one money maker? Because this film had a group of very good actors such as Clark Gable as Rhett Butler, Olivia de Havilland as Melanie Wilkes and Leslie Howard as Ashley Wilkes.

I believe that this movie deserved a 10, but I only gave it a 7 because, though I loved all the twists and turns, I disliked that there wasn't a conclusion, the time, and the fact that it was made in 1939 using technicolor. There isn't anything wrong with technicolor, I just prefer the new technology.

As I look back, I liked the way that the director had symbols in his movie and a message such as let us not go to war. (The time period was pre-WWII) I also liked that it created questions.

I would definitely watch this movie again and again.
